Creating and managing message links
Messaging links are smart links that direct users to a TikTok chat with prefilled text and optional tracking tags. You can use them in ad call-to-actions, TikTok bios, or offline marketing materials to drive targeted conversations.
A messaging link includes:
-
Referral source tag: a referral source for tracking (e.g. spring_promo, bio_link)
- By using a unique referral source tag, you can identify where the user came from (For example: ad campaigns, profile link)
- Message: a prefilled text that appears in the chat input
Example of a message link
https://tiktok.me/businessname?ref=summer2025&message=Join%20our%20VIP%20program
Example use cases of message links
- Campaign landing: “Click here to claim your discount” → directs users to chat with a prefilled promo message.
- Multilingual support: Share localized links with prefilled messages in different languages for global campaigns.
- Event RSVP: Add message links to stories or bios for events like adoption weeks, giveaways, or new product launches.
Benefits of using message links
-
Create low-friction entry points into chat:
- Let users start a conversation with just one tap — no forms, no redirects, no extra steps.
-
Control the first message and guide the conversation:
- Prefill a message that sets the context, making it easier for your team to respond quickly and appropriately.
-
Track link performance with ref values:
- Use referral source tags to see which source (e.g. bio, ad, campaign) drove the chat and optimize your strategy.
-
Drive higher engagement from TikTok without needing a website redirect:
- Keep users inside TikTok and lead them straight into a conversation, rather than losing them on external pages.

Creating message links
You can follow the steps below to create message links:
- In the “Message link” page, click on the “Create message link” button at the top right corner
- A pop-up modal will appear
- Fill in the following fields to create a message link:
-
Message link title
- This is an internal name to help you identify the purpose of the message link in your SleekFlow workspace
- Use a clear and descriptive name (For example: “June Giveaway Bio Link” or “Ad - Summer Sale”) to help your team organize and manage links later.
-
Referral source tag (optional)
- This optional field lets you add a tracking tag to identify where the link is being used. It appears in the URL as a ref value
- Helps you understand what source (e.g. profile, ad, landing page) led the customer to initiate the conversation
- Can be used in future analytics and automation (e.g. ref=bio_link, ref=fb_ad_may2025, ref=influencer_promo)
- You can add 1 tag per message link. Leave blank if you don’t need tracking.
-
Prefilled message
- This is the first message that will appear in the chat input when a user clicks the message link.
- Customers will see and can edit this message before sending it.
- It acts as a conversation starter (e.g. “Hi! I’d like to know more about the Summer Sale.”).
- Limited to 500 characters.
-
Message link title
- Once you have filled in the information, click “Create”

- Click on the
icon next to the message link title
- Select “Edit”

- In the “TikTok Business Messaging channel settings” page, you will be able to find a list of connected channels
- Look at the Status column to view each account’s connection state:
- Connected: SleekFlow is successfully linked to the TikTok account.
- Disconnected: The connection is inactive. This may happen if the access token expires or required permissions are revoked.
Troubleshooting disconnected TikTok Business Messaging channels
If your TikTok channel shows a “Disconnected” status:
-
Token may have expired
- Access tokens can expire over time.
- To fix this, simply remove the channel and reconnect it to generate a new token.
-
Permissions were revoked
- If TikTok permissions (e.g. message access, profile info) were changed or removed, the channel may become inactive.
- You’ll need to remove the channel and connect it again, granting all required permissions during the process.
-
Account issues on TikTok
- If your TikTok account was suspended or restricted, it may appear connected but not function properly. Log in to TikTok Business Center to check your account status.
Removing connected channels
⚠️ Note:
Removing a channel will disconnect the TikTok account from SleekFlow, but it will not affect the account itself in TikTok. You can reconnect the same account again at any time.
This action is irreversible and may affect other services in SleekFlow (for example: Flow Builder). Please proceed with caution.
