Releasing your SMS phone number

Releasing a phone number means ending its use as an SMS channel on your SleekFlow account. Once released, the number will no longer be available for sending or receiving SMS/MMS through SleekFlow, and billing for that number will stop after the current billing cycle.

Phone numbers are billed monthly from your SMS wallet. If you no longer need a number, you can release it manually, or it may be scheduled for release automatically if your wallet balance is insufficient.

Manual releasing your SMS phone number

You can manually release a phone number at any time if you no longer wish to keep it.

Common reasons for releasing a number include:

  • Consolidating multiple SMS numbers into one main number.
  • Ending a temporary campaign or project.
  • Replacing the number with another that has been verified.
  • Removing a number that was added by mistake or is unused.

When you release a number, it is marked for release but will remain active until the end of the current billing cycle.

  • During this period, you can continue to use the number for SMS/MMS and reactivate it if you change your mind.
  • Once the billing cycle ends, the number is permanently released and may be purchased by others.

You can follow the steps below to release your SMS phone number manually:

  1. In the “SMS channel” page, locate the phone number you would like to release
  2. Click on the icon next to the phone number
  3. Select “Release phone number”

  4. A warning modal will appear

  5. Click “Release” to confirm the action

📌 What happens after clicking “Release”

  • The phone number is scheduled for release but stays active until the end of your current billing cycle.
  • You can continue to send and receive SMS/MMS during this time.
  • If you change your mind, you can reactivate the number before the cycle ends.
  • Once the release date passes, the number is permanently returned to the market and may be purchased by someone else.

⚠️ Note: If your SMS wallet does not have enough balance to cover the phone number fee for two consecutive billing cycles, the number will be automatically scheduled for release.

Reactivate a to-be-released phone number

⚠️ Important

Reactivation is only possible before the scheduled release date. Once the number has been released, it cannot be recovered.

When a phone number is scheduled for release, it will be labeled in the “SMS channel” page with a “Verified” badge and the scheduled release date.
For example:

This indicates that the number is still active but will be automatically released if no action is taken.

You can follow the steps below to reactivate a to-be-released phone number:

  1. In the “SMS channel” page, locate the to-be-released phone number you would like to reactivate
  2. Click on the icon next to the phone number
  3. Click “Reactivate phone number”

  4. A warning modal will appear

  5. Click “Reactivate” to confirm the action
  6. Once reactivated, the release label will be removed and the number will remain active.

Renaming your SMS channel name

By renaming your SMS channel, you will only rename the display name shown in SleekFlow.

By default, the connected phone number is displayed as the channel name in SleekFlow. This can make it difficult for teammates to identify the purpose of each number at a glance, especially if you manage multiple SMS numbers.

You can follow the steps below to rename your SMS channels:

  1. In the “SMS channel” page, locate the phone number you want to rename
  2. Click on the icon next to the phone number
  3. Click “Rename”

  4. A pop-up modal will appear

  5. Enter the new channel name and click “Rename”

The updated name will appear across your workspace, making it easier for other users to recognize the channel’s purpose.

Deleting toll-free verification

You can delete the toll-free verification record of a toll-free phone number in SleekFlow if your request was rejected or if you need to update the verification details. Deleting verification clears the existing submission and status, allowing you to start fresh with a new application or remove outdated information that is no longer needed.

You can follow the steps below to delete your phone number verification:

  1. In the “SMS channel” page, locate the phone number with an existing verification record
  2. Click on the icon next to the phone number
  3. Click “Delete verification”
  4. A warning modal will appear
  5. Click “Delete” to confirm the action

By deleting the verification record of a phone number, the phone number will be regarded as “Unverified”. Messaging will be blocked until the phone number is verified again.
