From October 1, 2026, Meta will provide 1,000 free service messages for each business phone number per calendar month. Service messages beyond this allowance will be charged per message based on the destination market's utility or authentication rate.
To help manage your WhatsApp messaging costs, you can set a Monthly message spend limit in SleekFlow. This lets you set a monthly limit, monitor your current spending, and restrict outgoing messages when the limit is reached.
Note:
- Monthly message spend limits currently apply to WhatsApp only.
- If you set the monthly limit below the amount already spent during the current month, sending is restricted immediately. Sending becomes available again after you increase the limit above the current spend or when spending resets at the start of the next calendar month.
- Consider enabling auto top-up before setting a monthly message spend limit. Auto top-up automatically adds credit when your balance reaches the configured threshold. Learn more about enabling auto top-up.
- Anyone who can access the relevant channel page can set or edit the monthly message spend limit. There is no separate permission for managing the limit.
Why set a monthly message spend limit?
Setting a monthly message spend limit can help you:
- Control your spending: Set a limit on your WhatsApp messaging spend each calendar month.
- Choose a suitable limit: Review your spending for the current and previous month before deciding on a monthly limit.
- Monitor usage: See when spending is approaching or has reached the configured limit.
- Manage the limit over time: Any changes to your monthly limit take effect immediately and apply to the current month and future months until you change it again.
Accessing the Monthly spend limit feature
You can manage the monthly message spend limit from the WhatsApp Business Account settings page.
By default, no monthly message spend limit is set. You can continue sending messages without a monthly spending restriction until you configure a limit.
To find the setting:
- Click on the
icon on the left navigation bar to go to the “Channels” page - In the left panel, click “WhatsApp Business API”.
- Click on the “Billings” tab
- Find the Meta Business Account or WhatsApp Business Account you want to manage.
- Click on the
icon on the right to go to the WhatsApp Business Account settings page - Locate the Monthly message spend limit section.
From here, you can set a new monthly limit or edit an existing one.
Set or edit a monthly message spend limit
Set a monthly message spend limit
If no monthly limit has been configured:
- In the Monthly message spend limit section, click “Set limit”.
- In the Set monthly message spend limit window, enter an amount under Monthly limit.

- Enter 0 if you want to keep the account with no monthly spend limit.
- Review “Spent this month” and “Last month” to help you choose an appropriate limit.
- Click “Save”.
Your saved limit takes effect immediately. It resets on the 1st of each month at 00:00 UTC and continues to apply each month until you change it.
Change a monthly message spend limit
You can increase or decrease an existing monthly limit at any time. There is no minimum or maximum limit amount, and there is no limit to how often you can change it.
The updated limit takes effect immediately and continues to apply each month until you change it again. You cannot set a limit for the current month only.
Important: If you lower the monthly limit below the amount already spent during the current month, sending is restricted immediately. Sending becomes available again after you increase the limit above the current spend or when spending resets at the start of the next calendar month.
To change the limit:
- In the Monthly message spend limit section, click “Edit”.
- Enter the new amount under “Monthly limit”.
- Click “Save”.
The field is empty when you edit the limit. Enter the full new monthly limit rather than the amount you want to add to or subtract from the existing limit.
Check your monthly spend limit status
You can check your current spending from the Monthly message spend limit section on the Billing page.
The section shows your Spent this month amount, the configured monthly limit, and the current limit status.
The status changes as your spending approaches the limit:

The progress indicator shows your current spend against the configured monthly limit and updates as spending is recorded. It also updates immediately when you change the limit.
What happens when you approach or reach the limit?
SleekFlow warns users when spending approaches the monthly limit and restricts outgoing messages when the limit is reached.
When 90% of the limit is spent
When spending reaches 90% of the monthly limit:

- A non-dismissible warning appears in the message composer.
- You can continue sending messages normally.
- The warning recommends reducing messaging volume or increasing the limit.
- Users who can manage the account can use the warning to go to the relevant Billing page.
When 100% of the limit is spent
When spending reaches the monthly limit:

- Outgoing messages from channels covered by the limit are blocked.
- The message composer is replaced by a message explaining that the monthly limit has been reached.
- You can still view conversations and receive incoming messages.
- Users who can manage the account can go to Billing to review and increase the limit.
Sending becomes available again after the monthly limit is increased above the current spend or when spending resets at the start of the next calendar month.
How monthly message spend limits affect broadcasts
Monthly message spend limits also apply to broadcasts. The behavior differs depending on whether you send a broadcast immediately or schedule it for later.
Send a broadcast immediately
If the monthly spend limit has already been reached when you try to publish a broadcast for immediate sending, the broadcast is blocked.
A message explains that the monthly message limit has been reached. You can return to the broadcast or go to Billing to adjust the limit.
Schedule a broadcast
Scheduled broadcasts are not blocked when you create them because the spending status at the future send time cannot be determined in advance.
If the monthly spend limit has been reached when the scheduled broadcast is sent, affected messages fail individually. You can see the failed messages in the corresponding Inbox conversations, where an error indicates why the message could not be sent.
Note: Successfully scheduling a broadcast does not guarantee that all messages will be sent. The account must still be within its monthly message spend limit when the broadcast is sent.
