The “User replies to a story” trigger starts a flow when someone replies to a Facebook or Instagram story from the selected page or account. This can be used to engage customers who respond to story content, such as campaign announcements, product teasers, limited-time offers, or interactive story prompts.

Set up “User replies to a story” trigger node

  1. Click on the User replies to a story trigger node to open its node form, which will appear on the right side of the screen.
  2. The node form contains the following fields for you to set up the trigger:
  • Setup tab
    • Page: Select the connected Facebook Page or Instagram account you want to monitor.
    • Content type: Select which stories should trigger the flow.
      • All stories: The workflow will trigger whenever someone replies to any story from the selected page or account.
      • Specific story: The workflow will trigger only when someone replies to the stories you selected.

  • Comment: Select which comments should trigger the flow
    • All comments: The workflow will trigger whenever someone comments on any story from the selected page or account.
    • Comments with specific keywords: The workflow will trigger only when the comment includes the keywords you define

If you select “Comments with specific keywords”, you’ll need to set up the keyword operator rules:

  • Contains any of: The workflow will trigger when the comment contains at least one of the keywords entered.
  • Exactly match: The workflow will trigger only when the comment contains all keywords entered.

Tip: Use “All stories” for always-on engagement, such as following up with customers who reply to regular story updates. Use Specific story for targeted campaigns, launches, or limited-time promotions where only replies to selected stories should trigger follow-up actions.

  • Filter tab
    • Enrollment conditions: When toggled on, you can set specific conditions at the “Filter” tab that the customer must meet in order to be enrolled into the flow.

Important notes

When a story expires, the trigger will continue to work only if the story has been added to Instagram Highlights. If the story is no longer available and has not been added to Highlights, replies to that story will no longer trigger the flow.

After this, you can add any action or follow-up you need. For example, send the customer a direct message, share more information, add a label, or add them to a list for future retargeting.
